Directions To Park
From the intersection of S. Wadsworth Blvd. and W. Chatfield Ave. head west on
W. Chatfield Ave. to S. Carr St., turn right on S. Carr St. to W. Nichols Ave.
Turn right on W. Nichols Ave. to the park entrance located on the north side of Nichols.
Note: the Nichols entry is narrow and easily missed. Alternate access is located on
S. Carr St., north of Coronado Elementary School. There is no parking lot and we suggest
parking on W. Nichols Ave., in front of the park entry, or in the Coronado
Elementary School lot when school is not in session.

Park Description
This park is located adjacent to Coronado Elementary School. Coronado Park is a mix of
developed bluegrass park and undeveloped native areas. A creek (SJCD South) runs through
the main park offering wetlands and wildlife habitat adjacent to the park amenities.
The North Tributary of SJCD South runs through the extreme north end of the park.

Park Amenities
There were brand new amenities built in the park in 2001 which include a playground,
2 acres of irrigated bluegrass for open play, one unlighted tennis court, a combination
concrete skating court and full court basketball court and 2 picnic shelters.

Comments
An extensive trail system in the main park and outlying greenbelts. The trail is mostly
easy however, there are a few short stretches of steep grades that exceed 8% slope that
could be considered moderate by some users.
Park History
This park was originally called Columbine Knolls South II Undeveloped Park. The HOA began
developing a master plan for the park in 1988. The first phases of the trails system were
initiated in the early 1990’s. By 2001 the entire trails system was renovated to an 8’ wide
concrete surface.
