Comments
The trail begins at The Columbine Trail, a regional trail that parallels S.
Platte Canyon Dr. from W. Bowles Ave. south to Chatfield State Park.
From the Columbine Trail, the Massey Draw Regional Trail heads west through
Columbine Hills Park, Columbine Sports Park, and Wayside Meadows Park and
ends at S. Wadsworth Blvd. The trail parallels the SJCD South drainage
the entire distance. There are no designated trailheads but the parking
lot at Columbine Hills Park is an excellent starting point.
Park History
Columbine Hills is one of the oldest Foothills parks. It was acquired
in 4 separate parcels beginning in 1962. For the first 10 years park
development was accomplished through a cooperative effort between
Foothills and the Homeowners Association. A community center used
to be part of the park. It housed a day care facility until it was
sold in 1998. The Massey Draw Regional Trail was originally constructed
in 1980 with funding assistance from Jefferson County Open Space.
