Pottery FAQs
Q: What does the fee for pottery class cover?
A: Instruction and use of all classroom supplies & pottery wheels.
Q: Where can I buy clay?
A: Clay can be purchased during each class. We sell 25 pound bags of clay in the following colors; white, tans and red/brown.
Q: Do I have to buy clay at Foothills?
A: Clay can be purchased outside of the studio, but it must be approved by an instructor before it can be used and a firing fee must be assessed to each outside bag of clay. Please talk with your instructor before purchasing a bag of clay outside of the studio.
Q: What are the extra material fees for pottery classes?
A: Clay - $11.00 (plus tax)
Firing Fee (assessed to each bag of clay) - $18.00
Pottery Tool Kit (one time purchase - typically for new students only) - $14.00
Q: I’ve taken pottery before and have all my old tools, will I need to buy more?
A: No. If you have your tools, please bring them to class.
Q: How many students can you accommodate in a class?
A: We can take up to 12 students per class.
Q: How many pottery wheels and what kind of pottery wheels do you have?
A: We have 12 wheels. 10 electric wheels and 2 kick wheels.
Q: What if I just want to hand-build and I don’t plan on using a wheel?
A: Great! We have many people who register in our programs to dedicate their time to hand building.
Q: Is there anything extra I should bring to class?
A: Yes. Please bring an old towel and kitchen sponge or larger to class. This will help in cleaning up. Also, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Q: Do you have open lab time in the Pottery/Clay Arts Studio?
A: Lab time is available for adult students (18 and older) who are currently registered in a pottery class. Lab time information is available through the pottery instructors or the Cultural Arts Specialist.
Q: Is there any other information I should know about pottery?
A: Yes, long nails (whether they are artificial or natural) are not suggested. Please trim your nails prior to starting a class.
Q: What type of clothing should I wear for a pottery class?
A: Wear clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting permanently dirty.
