Wards and board representation
Foothills Park & Recreation District’s Board of Directors acted in May of 2009 to divide the Foothills District boundaries into separate "Director districts" or "wards".

This decision was made for the purpose of ensuring equal representation on the board of directors for all areas of the District. The change was approved by the Jefferson County District Court in November 2009.

Five wards have been created within Foothills boundaries. One board of directors representative from each ward will be elected by the constituents within that ward. The establishment of wards could give District residents more opportunity to provide input for their area. Wards will also help prevent special interests from any one geographic area within the District from holding a majority of representation on the Board. Ultimately, equal and fair representation of District residents based upon population is the goal.

The new board representation will be in effect for the upcoming board election in May 2010, when two Board member positions will be up for election. The specific wards that will be up for election are Wards 3 and 4.
