Creating Community with The Foothills Foundation
What calls someone to serve their community? For Justin Phillips, president of The Foothills Foundation, it was his family’s life-long connection to Foothills Park & Recreation District. The Foothills Foundation builds a stronger South Jeffco community by supporting the District.
Justin has lived in the District for 23 years. Both of his daughters were born and grew up here. And both have benefited from many of the District’s programs.
“My wife and I believe that sports are a key aspect of a well-rounded kid. The competition, team skills, schedule and activity are important in supplementing life skills and education.”
His eldest daughter, Courtney is an animal lover who never got into the competitive side of sports. Through Foothills Park & Recreation District, she enjoyed ballet, pottery, t-ball, basketball and golf. She found her true passion in swimming and perfecting her strokes. She went on to swim with the Foothills Swim Team and Columbine High School. While in college, she has continued as a private instructor for young kids wanting to improve their strokes.
Liz is a lot more competitive than her sister. She did ballet with her sister, then transitioned to other dance classes and competitive gymnastics. She also dabbled in several recreational sports with Foothills until she moved on to competitive leagues. She has since pitched softball for Columbine High School, a traveling team, became a D1 athlete at Oregon State University and is transferring to play at Colorado School of Mines this fall. She is currently a private lesson pitching coach through Prolific Sports.
Aside from serving his community, Justin is a licensed real estate agent and architect who enjoys golf, pickleball and bowling. As a part of The Foothills Foundation, he helps manage the Red, White & You beer gardens and The Foothills Foundation’s annual golf tournament, both designed to raise funds for projects and programs within Foothills Park & Recreation District. Recent contributions include Free Family Nights at all of Foothills’ outdoor pools; the Dutch Creek Trail extension; and the Inclusive Playground and Splash Park at Clement Park.
