Celebrating the wedding of two of our own at Peak Community & Wellness Center
Kalvin and Brittany Bowles met in 2020 the way many people do, through a dating app. Perhaps the fact that they both enjoyed helping others created their bond. Soon after, they both became Foothills Park & Recreation District employees, Kalvin in park maintenance and Brittany as a preschool teacher. This past year, everything came full circle when they celebrated their love right here at Peak Community & Wellness Center.
“I was drawn to Kalvin in the way he cares about people,” Brittany recalls, “He always makes sure to bring a smile and joke to any conversation.”
“When I first met Brittany, she was a very nice and caring girl that wanted to help people, even making it her job as a CNA at the time,” Kalvin reminisced. “After our first date, I couldn’t shake this weird feeling and couldn’t stop thinking about her. As it turns out, I had fallen for her. We kept getting closer and turned into each other’s perfect partner. She is everything I wanted and everything I needed in a person.”

Working at Foothills
Kalvin started working seasonally in parks maintenance for Foothills before becoming a full-time employee in charge of the baseball fields at Schaefer Athletic Complex and Easton Regional Park. One day while stopping for water at Ridge Recreation Center, he saw a flyer that Children’s Programs was hiring. “I let Brittany know right away since she’s the best person I know with kids.”
Brittany joined the Foothills team, and after working in Before & After School programs and summer camps, she became a part-time preschool teacher working in two classrooms at Lilley Gulch Recreation Center. “I have taken care of infants from less than one month old (not including our two beautiful children), to elderly all the way up to 100+ years old. I have really taken a liking to being a preschool teacher and being able to help shape young minds!”
“I like my job because I get to spend my days outdoors, making parks enjoyable and nice for visitors,” Kalvin said. “I get to set up ball fields for different sports at different times of day. Setting up each field feels therapeutic to me. I’ve grown up with extended family working in parks at the national level, which helped point me to the career path I’m on now, and led me to go to college for Park Ranger Technology at Red Rocks Community College.”
An Engagement and Two Weddings
“We were relaxing on a Saturday morning, just watching TV when Kalvin came around the corner and said ‘I don’t want to wait any longer, I want to spend forever waking up next to you and relaxing on Saturday mornings together. I want to spend all of my time with you by my side. Will you marry me?’”
That was July 2024. The couple officially got married October 11, 2024 in front of their immediate families to ensure that all of their grandparents, who had some health concerns, could be part of that special day. The bigger celebration came one year later with all of their friends and family coming together at Peak Community & Wellness Center.
Why did they choose to get married here? “We chose the Peak because we love the gazebo with the mountain views behind it, having spent time there during staff BBQs and other work functions.”
“We had our wedding ceremony on our one year anniversary, so all of our friends and family could be a part of it with us at the Peak. The one year anniversary gift is paper so we folded 365 (one for every day of the year) paper lotus flowers to be used with our centerpieces,” Brittany beamed. “Kalvin has been the biggest blessing of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
