Proposed New South Jeffco Library Site – Delayed Indefinitely

UPDATE: January 9, 2023

In 2022, Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) considered a proposal from the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) to purchase up to six acres of the 29.6-acre Sledding Hill Park for a new south Jeffco library and associated park improvements. To seek resident input on this proposal, several community meetings were hosted and attended by JCOS and JCPL. At this point, JCOS has decided to delay a decision on this proposal indefinitely. JCOS and JCPL will provide public notification when more details are available.

Foothills Park & Recreation District has managed Sledding Hill Park, owned by Jefferson County Open Space, since October 1999 through an agreement and lease executed by the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners. We share the sentiment expressed by the Director of Jefferson County Open Space that: “We understand that this location is beloved by the community for sledding. Knowing this, we want to be sure that a new library at this location would enhance and not impact sledding, that’s a given.”  With that said, the District looks forward to participating in the community engagement process and, if the project comes to fruition, the District will be dedicated to ensuring that the sledding and park-visiting experience will be enhanced.
